Microgaming
Headquarters
The opening of the Microgaming Headquarters,
Circular Road, Douglas. The long exposure
(4 minutes) has produced some interesting
light trails from the passing cars. The
interaction of these lights with the street
lights and the lit building have created
an unusual, but nevertheless effective image.

Cains Advocates
Ltd
The brief was to create a dynamic image
of Douglas for Cains Advocates company brochure.
I concentrated on the Victorian street lamps
and Clock which contrast nicely with the
modern architecture of the RBS building.
The tramlines and cobble-stones create a
dynamic composition leading from the bottom
corner, while the clouds and light trails
from passing cars add that all important
sense of movement.

Isle of Man
Holiday.com
I was asked to provide an image for the
website 'Isle of Man Holiday.com'. The concrete
path leads the eye to the Lighthouse, while
the use of a polariser adds drama to the
wonderful sky. The Ebony large format camera
accepts several different film holders,
including the Shenhao 6x17cm Panoramic Back
used for this image.

Glen View Cottage
I was asked by the company Swagelok to
produce an image of Glen View Cottage in
Port St. Mary. The owner of the property
was leaving the company after some time
and this was going to be his surprise parting
gift. Through a combination of phone calls
and secret text messages, I organised with
his wife the best time to come and photograph
the property. I chose a wide view from the
footpath, revealing the hill top location
and making the most of the hedgerow. The
rural scene is enhanced by the bluebells
on the footpath, as well as the owners cat
(Flint) who added that finishing touch by
appearing on the back patio. I would like
to thank Mrs Ronan and Flint for their help.

Cains Advocates
Ltd - Day and Night
Another commission for Cains Advocates,
but this time of their newly painted premises
in Athol Street. The idea was to produce
two images of the building, one during the
day and one at night. This proved challenging
since Athol Street runs NE to SW, meaning
during the winter months, the sun never
strikes the facade of the building directly.
Luckily, the sun was reflecting off a nearby
building, so I was able to utilise this
'borrowed light'. The night time shot was
improved by asking the staff to turn on
all the lights in the building, making it
glow in the darkness. As I stood at my tripod
waiting for the light to fade, I was served
endless cups of coffee by the friendly staff.
I would like to thank them for helping me
stave off the cold and for their assistance
in making this image.

Fairbairn Private
Bank
I was asked by Fairbairn Private Bank in
Douglas to undertake three commissioned
pictures for their main reception area.
The brief was to create one coastal image,
one upright panoramic image of a glen, and
one large panoramic taken from the roof
garden of St. Mary's Court, where Fairbairn
are based. I aimed to capture a sunrise
over Douglas Bay, but my first attempt was
thwarted by overcast conditions. My second
attempt proved more successful. I arrived
about 7am and climbed over the metal safety
barrier that surrounds the roof garden and
positioned myself as close to the edge as
I could. This meant I could avoid the perimeter
wall and have unobstructed views of the
bay. The resulting canvas is the largest
I have ever produced measuring 3m x 1m,
and provides a dramatic focal point to the
reception area.
