RK003/Sulby Glen

The movement of the clouds on this day was directly down the valley and resulted in a wonderful play of light on the landscape below. I took several exposures as the light changed.

RK024/Ballaglass Glen

This image was taken in the summer when the colours of the leaves were at there most verdant. The composition of the image is based around the central spherical stone from which the lines of perspective radiate.

RK036/Glen Helen

I wanted to create a sense of what a glen 'feels' like. The enclosed feeling is aided by the fallen tree, while the sunlit trees in the distance create depth and hint at the world beyond. The dark tones of the image are lifted by the freshly fallen autumn leaves.

RK022/Dhoon Glen

I had walked for hours in the glen and it was only on the way out that I spotted the sunlight pouring through the trees. I quickly set up my camera before the sun descended behind the hill. The sunlight reflecting off the damp leaves on the path lifts the image while the ancient twisted forms creates a scene reminiscent of the 'Lord of the Rings'.

RK045/Spooyt Vane

Spooyt Vane waterfall is located in Glen Mooar just south of Kirk Michael and is probably the finest waterfall on the island. I had visited this spot many times before but without much success. On this overcast and rainy day I was lucky to find this fern around which I structured the image. The vibrant greens are partly due to the colour shift of Velvia film during the 2 minute exposure.

RK048/Ballaglass Glen

Towards the end of October this glen is transformed into a wonderful display of autumn colours. This image is taken from a well known viewpoint just by the footbridge that crosses over the Cornaa River. I made the most of the colours by using an 81EF warm-up filter.
